Southern Africa

Rosemarie Robinson, Travel Consultant

I was fortunate enough to experience some of Southern Africa's most iconic destinations on an educational hosted by the incredible team at Dragonfly Africa. Over eight unforgettable days, we explored vibrant Cape Town, witnessed the awe-inspiring Victoria Falls from the air, and enjoyed exceptional safari experiences across Zimbabwe and Botswana.

Cape Town, South Africa

Cape Town is one of the most breathtaking cities I've ever visited. What makes it so special is the contrast between dramatic coastlines, rolling vineyards and world class food and wine.

One of the highlights was exploring the Cape Peninsula along Chapman's Peak Drive, widely regarded as one of the world's most scenic coastal roads. We continued to Cape Point and the Cape of Good Hope, where the cliffs meet the ocean, before visiting Boulders Beach to see a colony of African penguins. It's this combination of natural beauty, wildlife, adventure and wine country that makes Cape Town such an extraordinary destination.

Victoria Falls & Matetsi Private Game Reserve, Zimbabwe

From Cape Town we flew to Victoria Falls, where we stayed at the luxurious Matetsi Victoria Falls Lodge. A true highlight was the famous "Flight of Angels" helicopter experience over Victoria Falls. Seeing the mighty Zambezi River plunge into the gorge below was breathtaking and remains one of the most memorable travel experiences I've ever had.

Equally impressive were the sunset river safaris on the Zambezi and game drives through the Matetsi Private Game Reserve. One unforgettable moment came as we watched one of Matetsi's resident male lions, emerge in the evening golden hour and let out a series of roars that reverbarated through the ground. Moments later, venturing a couple of hundred meters away, we enjoyed sundowners in the African bush as the sun sunset a serious pinch me moment.

Chobe, Botswana

Crossing into Botswana, our journey continued to Chobe Chilwero on the edge of Chobe National Park, famous for its remarkable wildlife and enormous elephant population.

Game drives and river safaris offered incredible wildlife viewing, with large herds of elephants gathering along the Chobe River while hippos and crocodiles completed the scene.

This educational showcased why Southern Africa remains one of the world's most rewarding travel destinations. The combination of cities, natural wonders, luxury lodges and extraordinary wildlife encounters creates a trip unlike anywhere else on earth.

From watching penguins in Cape Town and flying above Victoria Falls to hearing a lion's roar echo through the Zimbabwean bush and witnessing elephants gather along the Chobe River, every day delivered a new highlight.

I came away from this educational with not only a deeper understanding of Southern Africa, but also an enormous appreciation for the people behind the scenes who make these journeys so special.

As travel advisors, we're often asked what differentiates one supplier from another. After spending time with the Dragonfly Africa team on the ground, the answer became clear - their people, their expertise and the genuine relationships they've built throughout the region.

From seamless transfers and lodge stays to expertly curated experiences, every detail was thoughtfully planned and executed. What stood out most was the team's incredible local knowledge. Dragonfly doesn't simply sell Southern Africa, they live and breathe it. Their recommendations are built on firsthand local experience, partnerships and a passion for creating meaningful travel experiences.

Throughout the trip, we met exceptional guides and lodge managers whose knowledge and enthusiasm brought each destination to life. It also became obvious just how strong Dragonfly's relationships are with their lodges and tourism partners across the region. These trusted partnerships translate directly into better experiences for travellers and help create those unforgettable wow moments.

What impressed me most was how personally invested the team is in every client's journey. Whether it's a luxury safari, honeymoon or family adventure, their focus remains on crafting experiences that feel personal and meaningful. Combined with their local presence and ability to adapt quickly when plans change, clients can travel with complete confidence knowing they are supported every step of the way.

Perhaps the biggest takeaway was the genuine passion the team has for the destinations, wildlife, communities and conservation projects they support. Having now experienced Dragonfly Africa firsthand, I can confidently say they are far more than a destination management company.
