"In my job, I have booked many clients on Viking voyages - ocean, river, and expedition cruises - and for years I have heard them return from their trips praising the Viking product.

Four months ago, I was incredibly lucky to experience a Viking ocean cruise. I sailed aboard Viking Neptune on their 15-day Homelands itinerary, sailing from Stockholm to Bergen.

From the moment I booked my journey to the minute I was reluctantly dragged off the ship in Bergen (police weren't needed, but it was a close call), I finally understood what my clients have been telling me.

Viking cruises are exceptional.

The standard of service, the ship's interior décor, the food, the attention to detail, did I mention the food? And most of all their staff make it the most amazing experience.

A shore excursion is included in each port of call, and these are great - normally a small group walk through the city. I did elect to pay for a few optional tours, which I would urge anyone to do. In Stavanger, I did a RIB (rigid inflatable boat) ride through a fjord. In 40 years of travelling, this is one of the best experiences I have had, absolutely amazing.

Of the 900 passengers, many were on their 2nd, 3rd, or even more cruises, which speaks volumes about customer satisfaction.
